Interesting new resource for those applying to business school

Hey there, everyone. I hope all of you are enjoying your summers and taking time to relax and enjoy yourselves. I'd like to start off this entry by wishing everyone affected by the floods in the middle of the U.S. a quick recovery from those events. I have been really affected by the news stories coming out of that region and, while it isn't the same as what went down with Hurricane Katrina, it is just as sad. I hope all of you reading this will send your thoughts and prayers to those affected by this tragedy. Also, I hope all of the U.S.-based readers had an enjoyable 4th of July holiday weekend.

This isn't going to be a full blog entry with a response to a reader email. Rather, I wanted to pass along info about a resource that might prove helpful to those of you who plan to apply to business school in the future. The resource is a new e-Book written by a 2005 alum of Stanford GSB with survey responses from recent top-MBA alums answering a wide range of questions. According to the author, the survey questions touch on many of the same topics from this blog, so he reached out to notify me of his book. He's got two versions of it available online. One version is a 21-page file available at no cost to interested parties and the other is a 80+ page file that one would have to order.

Those of you who've read this site for a while know that I've got a lot of love for the GSB, so i'm all about helping him spread the word. I've included an excerpt of his email to me below and, if you're interested in checking out the e-Book, you can find it at the following site: Link to ExpertCollective e-Book site

"Marquis,

I found your blog today, and have been reading through the posts. From the
alumni database, I see that you work for McKinsey - I'm impressed that you
have time to give such detailed answers on your blog while working a
notoriously demanding job!

I'm a 2005 GSB'er, and have been working on putting together an e-book full of
survey responses from classmates from the GSB, as well as friends and
colleagues from HBS, Columbia, and Kellogg. After reading your blog posts,
I've noticed that my ebook addresses some of the questions you are answering
on your blog (i.e. advice for students entering bschool in the fall, how to
address lack of work experience in essays, etc.). I've attached 2 versions of
the ebook (a free 21-page version, and the full 80+ page version).
I'd love to get your thoughts. If you think this is something your readers
might like, feel free to include a link to www.ExpertCollective.com (where I
give the short version for free in exchange for an email address).

Hi Marquis,
Thanks for the info - I am curious to read the survey. However, the link doesn't seem to be working. Can you check?

Thanks for all the great (and selfless) work.

My bad on putting up a bad link for the survey eBook site. It should be fixed now.
